August 6th: Mighty Edinburgh Castle

We spent the whole day in Edinburgh today, getting to know the Scottish capital better.
After breakfast we began by riding the city bus from our hotel in Leith to Princes Street in the New Town from where we walked across to the Old Town & Castle Hill.
Inside the Castle we enjoyed a 30 minute introductory tour, complete with jokes & details of unpleasant medieval punishments & warfare.  Then the group was free to spend as long as they wished exploring the castle's attractions & displays, including the Scottish crown jewels.

Great views over Edinburgh's New Town - our hotel is next to the large buildings in the center of the coastline

The remainder of the day was free - to wander along the Royal Mile to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, to shop on Princes Street, to discover a quaint pub for lunch, or just to relax back at the hotel.
We 'rendezvoused' this evening for dinner, tonight eating at one of Edinburgh's popular French restaurants.
