We said goodbye to London today as we began our explorations of the rest of Britain, starting with a journey west to the beautiful city of Bath.
Our first stop was in Windsor, an historic town just west of London & close to Heathrow Airport.
Conveniently another family arrived this morning so as we arrived in Windsor we joined-up to begin our sightseeing with a visit to Windsor Castle. Built by William the Conqueror over 900 years ago, the castle is the Queen's official residence. Amongst the sights we saw were the state rooms, St. George's Chapel, Queen mary's dollhouse, a selection from the royal art collection, & the changing of the guard.
Afterwards there was time for lunch &shopping in the quaint streets of the surrounding town.
From Windsor we traveled further west, next stopping to visit the mysterious & truly ancient site of Stonehenge.
Although some travelers are disappointed by the real-life size of Stonehenge, most are even more impressed & amazed when they learn the story of what is known about the monument & the efforts that went into its construction 5,000 years ago!
From Stonehenge we traveled west once more, arriving in the small city of Bath in the late afternoon where we checked into our wonderfully-situated hotel & strolled all of 50 yards to our superb dinner this evening to end another great day.
Tomorrow: Exploring Bath
